NFC Google review cards: how they work

What NFC Google review cards are, how tap-to-review works on iPhone and Android, where to place them, and how they compare with QR codes.

An NFC review card is a card with a tiny chip inside. When a customer holds their phone against it, the phone reads a web link stored on the chip and opens it. With a review card, that link is your Google review page. No app, no searching, no typing your business name.

How tap-to-review works

  1. The customer holds the top of their phone near the card.
  2. The phone reads the link and opens it.
  3. Your Google review form opens, ready for them to tap the stars, add a comment if they like, and post.

The whole thing takes seconds, which matters because every extra step is a chance for a happy customer to give up.

Which phones work?

iPhone XS and newer read NFC cards automatically while the screen is on, with no app needed. Most modern Android phones read them too when NFC is switched on, which it usually is by default. For the rare phone that can't tap, we can add a QR code to the card so customers can scan it instead.

Where to put review cards

  • Counters and tills: where customers pay and are happiest.
  • Reception desks: clinics, gyms, hotels and offices.
  • Tables and salon stations: cafes, restaurants and salons.
  • Work vans: trades can hand the card over when the job is done.

NFC cards vs QR codes

Both send customers to the same review link. A QR code needs the customer to open their camera and line it up. An NFC card just needs a tap, which feels quicker at a busy till. Many businesses use both, and we can add a QR code to your NFC cards so you get the best of each.

Tips for getting the most from your cards

  • Mention the card out loud: “If you enjoyed it, just tap your phone here.”
  • Keep it where customers can see it, not tucked behind the till.
  • Ask every customer and never offer anything in return for a review. That keeps you within Google's rules.

How much do review cards cost?

Nitech review cards are a one-off price: 1 card for £15, 3 cards for £35, or 5 cards for £50, each pre-set to your Google review link. See review card pricing.
